Google Account
A secure identity used to sign in to Google services. It can use an email you already own, such as yourname@yourcompany.com.
Fatti access guide
Turn your existing company email into a Google-linked account without changing your email address or creating a new Gmail inbox.
Example only: throughout this guide, we use peter@company.com as a placeholder. Please use your own company email address wherever you see it.
Why this is needed
Data Studio—previously called Looker Studio—can filter a report using the email address of the person viewing it. To do that safely, Google first needs to know who is signed in.
Your Google-linked account gives your own company address a secure Google sign-in. When you open the report and allow it to use your email address, the report can match that address to the applicable records and show only the data intended for you or your company.
Use your own company email with your new Google Account password.
Your signed-in email becomes the safe identifier used by the report.
The report returns the records linked to your email and its permissions.
A common mix-up
A secure identity used to sign in to Google services. It can use an email you already own, such as yourname@yourcompany.com.
A Google Account that also includes a new @gmail.com email address and Gmail inbox. You do not normally need this for the Fatti report, but it is a useful fallback if Google will not accept your company-email setup.
The friendly version: you are giving your existing work email a Google “entry pass.” You are not changing the email address, moving the mailbox or replacing your company’s email system.
How Google explains viewer email filteringBefore you begin
Use your actual company address. peter@company.com is only an example.
Google sends a verification code there.
This can be different from your email password.
Keep it nearby. Google may require you to scan a QR code to verify the setup.
Open Google
Open Google’s account creation page. If a menu appears, choose For my personal use. This is the option Google currently uses for creating an account with an existing non-Gmail address—even when that address is your work email.
Open Google Account sign-upEnter your name
Interface preview — Google’s wording or layout may change.
Basic information
Enter your first and last name, then select Next. Google may ask for your birthday and gender before it asks which email you want to use. Follow the on-screen prompts.
Use your real details so account recovery and security checks work properly.
The important choice
When Google suggests a Gmail address, do not select one. Choose Use your existing email, then enter your own company email and select Next. For example, Peter would enter peter@company.com—you should enter your own address.
For this preferred method, do not create a new @gmail.com address. The aim is to link your existing company email to Google. If Google will not allow it, use the Gmail fallback below.
Interface preview — look for this exact phrase.
Confirm ownership
Google will email a verification code to the company address you entered. Open that message, copy the code, return to the Google sign-up tab, enter the code and select Next.
Check spam or junk. You can also ask your IT team to allow messages from account-verification-noreply@google.com.
Finish securely
Create a strong password for this Google Account and complete the remaining on-screen steps. Add a recovery phone number if appropriate, review Google’s terms, and finish the account setup.
Google may show a QR code during verification. Open your phone’s camera, scan the code and follow the instructions on your phone. If Google offers another verification method, follow the option shown on screen.
You can now sign in to Google using your own company email plus the new Google password, then open the Data Studio report shared with you.
Your work email is now your Google Account sign-in.
Final account check
It is quite common to have a personal Google Account and a work Google Account open in the same browser. Before using the report filters, take a moment to check that Data Studio is using the company email that was given access to the report.
Wait for the Data Studio report to finish loading.
Find the round profile picture or initial, as circled in the screenshot below.
Move your pointer over the profile icon or select it. Confirm that the email shown is the company address linked to your Fatti access.
Correct: the email shown matches the company address that should see the report. peter@company.com is only an example; yours should show your own email.
If the email is wrong
If the correct email is displayed but the report is still blank or shows the wrong data, ask your Fatti contact to confirm that the email has been linked to the right report access and data records.
Google’s account-switching helpFatti fallback option
Sometimes Google will not allow the same mobile number to verify another Google Account linked to a custom company email. If Google will not accept your number, or you cannot complete the custom-email setup, please do not get stuck.
Fatti suggests creating a new Gmail account instead. Send the exact new @gmail.com address to your Fatti contact and we will provide Data Studio report access to that account.
Create a Gmail accountChoose a clear address that you will recognise and keep the password safe.
Share only the new @gmail.com address—never send us the password.
Fatti will grant the Data Studio report access to that Gmail account.
Open Data Studio while signed in with the new Gmail address and check the profile icon.
Troubleshooting
That normally means the address already has a Google Account or is linked to a Google Workspace visitor session. Try signing in or recovering the account before creating a new one.
Check Google’s account helpNo. Your company continues to host and deliver your email. You are only using the same address as the name of your Google Account.
Normally, no. Start with “Use your existing email.” If Google will not let you complete the company-email setup, Fatti recommends creating a Gmail account and sending us that new address so we can provide report access.
Create a password for the Google Account. It does not have to match your company email password, and you should never share either password.
Contact your company’s IT administrator. Some organisations manage account creation or restrict access to Google services.
